She loved it!

Gran loved her mimi album.....there were a few tears too.

Eternal Love

Hubs grandparents have played a major role in our lives.

Its is because of them that Hubs and I packed up all our belongings and headed down to Devon to make our new life.
Grampy had suffered a stroke and having no immediate family around to help Gran care for him, meant we just had to be the ones who sold everything we owned to help them through the golden days.

Grampy was such a hero...at 93 he drove down to the "local" to partake in his daily 1/2 of Guiness, it wasnt unusual to see him digging and tending to his cottage garden at 95!

This man ate all the stuff we are told not too....fried brekkie everyday and it was swimming in a pool of proper beef dripping...a glass or two of whiskey at night and always puffing away at a big fat cigar, known as a "Banger".

Sadly Grampy passed away and left poor Gran lost....he had done everything for her and had always "looked after" things....she hadnt got a clue how to load the solid fuel Aga, had never written a cheque in her life and couldnt drive.

As Hubs was the next living male relative he inherited Grampys house....its a family thing where the women loose out!

Gran came to stay with us for a wee while whilst we made some pretty extensive and much needed renovations to the house....there was no bathroom....no electricity....no mains water supply....no sewerage system...no gas....solid fuel heating which was a nightmare to cook with and the house was riddled with woodworm!!!
Hubs and I worked solidly for months and then once finished we all moved "home".

Gran lived with us for three years until she suffered a nasty horrible stroke and needed to have proper nursing care........its so sad that she wont see her days out in the home she loved but it would be physically impossible for us to care for her needs. She has very limited use of her limbs which makes her a prisoner in her own body. Her mind is so active and she is an extremely intelligent lady who is always full of the most amazing information.

She is a delight to go and visist and I love nothing more than sitting down and chatting with her about the good old days.

It would have been their 50th Wedding Anniversary today.

I made this mini album using the Mystery Kit from A Trip Down Memory Lane and am about to go vist Gran and will enjoy an afternoon taking a trip down her memory lane.

Stop bullying and make school make sense

School can be a scary place for children with autism, and even more so when they become the target of bullying. At least 40% of parents of children with autism and 60% of children with Asperger syndrome report that they have been bullied at school; but because of the nature of the condition, it is likely that this figure is understated.

"I was bullied in my old school. It was hard. I was left out. They would not play with me. They chatted with each other but not to me. That made me feel sad because I wanted to be friends with them." Anna, 14

"My child is bullied - the school says it is his fault for being 'annoying'." Parent

Many of the children and families report damage to self esteem, mental health and progress at school. Some withdraw from school altogether, others never fully recover from their experiences.

To mark Anti-Bullying Week 2006, The National Autistic Society has published a new report
"B is for bullied: experiences of children with autism and their families."
It details the experiences of bullying, as told by children with autism and their families.

We are calling on the Government and local authorities to reduce bullying by implementing the demands of our make school make sense education campaign and by ensuring that bullying on the grounds of disability is dealt with as seriously as bullying on any other grounds. This week we are giving evidence to the Education and Skills Select Committee's inquiry into bullying to bring to their attention the particular challenges faced by children with autism who are bullied at school.
With the right support all children with autism can succeed at school.

Children with ASD are so vunerable....easily manipulated and most become the target for the playground bully :(

If we hadnt had the support from the local NAS team J wouldnt be alive now......he was bullied....it almost cost him his life :(

Arghhhhh!

Durrrrr! Dumb Mom alert! I went off to Taunton yesterday and guess what? I forgot my bloomin camera...weep weep weep! The place was heaving with trendy young skater folk and amazing graffiti art everywhere...poo! Just means I have to go back very soon and will deffo be taking the camera!
Bobs loved it and skated till he dropped.

I managed to shop til I dropped and have now bought most of J's pressies :) Bobs has thrown a bit of a spanner in the works because he has asked for just one present. He never asks for anything but this year he shocked us all by actually sitting down and saying "please, please, please Mom can I have a Chopper?"!

Now we arent talking the MK3 2006 version....nope he wants a 1974 original Mk2 black with chrome everything....just like the one his Dad and I had when we were young tackers!
I fell in love with Hubs in 1974 at the tender age of 6! He was 9 and the first guy in our area to have a Chopper bike....ummmm I got one pretty soon afterwards and thought we looked so cool riding off on our adventures on our matching bikes....how naff eh?
So the hunt is on....we have trawled ebay and manged to find a couple....one was way out of our price leauge at £1600!!! The other seller wont sell now...auction ends tonight and he wants to wait to see how much he can get for it...boooo hisss...I offered him good money....real cash NOW...but no he wants to wait to see if he can get more more more! Ive placed my highest bid and you watch I'll still loose out...I always do on ebay :(

Flippin heck we had two of the things sitting rusting away in my Moms garden shed until we flung em at the tip a couple of year back....£3k dumped Wahhhhhhhhhhhh

If any of you lovelies out there have an old rusty Chopper bike lurking in the darkest recesses of your garages/garden sheds that needs a new loving home, and you wanna make a bit of spare dosh before Crimbo email me at info@littlecottagecrafts.co.uk Hubs reckons he will be able to restore one in time to make my Bobs smile on crimbo morning :)

Last night Hubs took the guys out to one of his mens skittles nights and left me home alone to enjoy some peace and quiet and off course I scrapped a little.
I finished off my Mystery Kit project from A Trip Down Memory Lane for the UKS Cyber Crop

Heres a sneaky peek

Off to iron the uniforms for school tomorrow.....boooooooo.... I love having my family all around me....not long til the school hols eh :):)

Sneaky Peeks 2

What a norty norty blogger I am! The past week has flown by with me hardly having anytime spare at all. Ive been up to my eyes in Pizza Boxes and thankfully the last few kits for the UKS Cyber Crop class were posted out yesterday :)

The biggest downside of having the shop is less time to play! I really miss being able to scrap as and when I liked.
I really do have to book time for me so I can turn off and relax into a bit of craftin.

Ms Lippy Chick sent me a couple of her new books to play around with and Im lovin this ickle book more each time I look at it....its soooo fab and looks amazing once you start to work your magic and scrap it.
The new books are due to be launched very very soon....so watch this space :)

Wanna sneaky peek?????....well here you are...LOL!

Not only have I been a norty blogger but also a norty Mom! Ive been neglecting Bobs a little too much just lately :(
J is so demanding of my time so between the shop and number 2 there isnt much spare time for anything else :(
Hubs is excellent and spends loads of time with Bobs and they have a very special relationship but Im his Mom and I need to spend time with my guy....he is wonderful, sensitive and so very caring....plus he got straight A's in his school report yesterday....whoo hooo....clever clogs eh? ....unlike his Mom thats for sure!

It has been decided Im off out for the day....taking Bobs to a new skate park which has opened in Taunton...imagine a car full of smellie 13 year olds, music turn up full blast....compulsory stop off at McYuckies as we are passing....excellent!
Of course Mom spending precious time with her boy is fine so long as his mates arent around.....so after I have snapped a few piccies of tomorrows SK8 stars, Im shooting over to see my bessie mate who lives just a stones throw away and then into Taunton town centre to raid the shops.

I took this piccie a couple of days ago of Bobs and his buds just hangin out at the basketball court....I just love shadows of the human form....they look spirits all chillin out and havin fun.

Have fun whatever you are doing.....

Coming up for air!

Just a quick post to say Im still alive!

Its been manic with the build up to the Cyber Crop over on UKScrappers and our class kit going live.

We are into pre-orders for pre-orders now!

Re-stocks should be hitting the Cottage tomorrow so I'll be a busy bee making up the kits as fast as my podgie fingers will let me!

One of the pre crop swaps was to make a mythical creature.......let me introduce you to Florella Goosewart...complete with cape, hat and broomstick

Here she is in the buff

I used some of the fabby black peeloffs that Debs sent me ages ago...Im loving them soooo much and want more....lots more.

Florella was painted using acrylics and then I added the peel offs....her cape and hat are off cuts of felt and her broomstick made from borrowed bits from the broomstick which hangs on my kitchen door.

Florella has been parcelled up safely and is making her way to her new home across the waters. I do hope she behaves herself and remebers her manners...

Boxes to go!!!

Wowzers! Its been a busy couple of days!
The Cyber Crop has been launched over on UKScrappers and Little Cottage Crafts were asked to make up a class with a kit to accompany it.

I designed a fab ickle class using a Lippy Chick Flip Book with 3 Bugs in a Rug papers ( Oh yummy yummy 3 Bugs...I do adore them)

The kit launched at 9am yesterday morning and by 2.30pm all kits were sold out!
A quick phone call to the lovely guys over in the US and then a frantic email to the Lippy Chick’s and thankfully more supplies are making their way to us...phew!

Its pretty difficult to gauge how many kits will/wont sell and as we had never provided class kits for UKS before, we followed the advice given to us by those from upon high....I dont think they realised just how huge this CC is going to be. There are soooo many people registered to take part in what looks like a stonkingly good weekend.

Hope to see you there.

Look at just a few of the boxes which left us today to make their way to 100’s of eager scrappy gals up and down the UK....and there’s more to go out tomorrow!!!

Im shattered so its early to bed for me!

Sleep tight babes....Oh and Debs if you manage to get to read this over the next couple of days.....good luck hunny...hope all goes well. Im thinking of you LOTS :)

I am a Music Man!

There are days went I could scream at the injustice that takes place in school up and down the UK.
My mates son has ASD ( Autistic Spectrum Disorder) and although extremely high functioning he has severe problems coping within a mainstream setting...not only does he suffer but the school just can not manage his behaviour.
She was called into school today and the head excluded her son because the teaching staff had refused to teach him without there being an additional member of staff in the classroom to manage his behaviour.

We arent talking fisty cuffs from a 14 year old 6 footer...my mates son is 6! His "bad behaviour" - stimming!
For those who dont know, stimming is a word used to describe repetitive bodily actions. In J's case he flicks his fingers in front of his eyes when he gets stressy....he does it over and over again whilst rocking gently until he calms himself down.
My mates son...well when he stims he rocks back and forth and hums loudly - (humming creates a "white noise" which blocks out background sound to help the hummer concentrate)....so my mates boy is out of school because the teachers couldnt cope with his rocking and humming...actions he has no control over.
Poor wee man is outta school and now the battle begins! Having been through similar with J and ending up in court to get the battle won, Im all geared up to help her fight the longest, hardest battle she will ever face.
Her son so obviously needs access to specialised teaching....how else is he going to grow, develop and reach his full potential??
Im not knocking mainstream teachers at all...infact Im full of admiration for them because I could not do their job at all.
The problem lies with this insane Inclusion policy...Ok it works for some kids but for others its like plonking a martian in the playground and telling it to be friends with everyone, understand the underwritten social rules of life Oh and be normal...how can it be when Mr Alien doesnt understand what normal is???
I blame central governments, the LEA's and bloomin number 10...education, education, education....my arrrrrrsssseeee!
Money should not come first....but it does!
Rant over! Put the soapbox away and breatheeeeeee....arrrr thats better!

My J...well we were told "he wouldnt ever amount to much"...actual words used by the Specialist at the local hossie...nice chap...NOT!
Well Mr Knowsnaffallaboutautism....how about this.....

J came home from school today carrying a box.
He opens up the box to show Mama whats inside....
My J can play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on the Accordian....Ive never cried so much in my life.....tears of sheer happiness...my boy is doing just fine.
Look at the concentration on his face!

SK8 4 C.L.I.C.

The guys went down to the local skate bowl in Braunton on Saturday to take part in a Skate Jam and left me at home to dose myself up with Lemsip :(
The Bowl is known amonst the youff of the village as "The Pool" because it looks just like a swimming pool.
Bowl skating started in the US when younsters couldnt find suitable places to ride. Swimming pools provided the excellent surface that boarders seek to ride, so as and when pools were emptied to be cleaned and maintained, skaters would clap their hands with joy at the prospect of having a perfect skate environment.
Slowly, over the years, purpose made Bowls have been popping up over the UK.

The Bowl came up against loads of opposition when plans were submitted to the local planning office, but thankfully after several meetings with the men in grey suits, permission was granted.
Then came the endless task of raising funds to build the thing. No monies were put up front from the local council....if the guys wanted it so badly then they would have to provide the funds. The skaters all banded together to raise cash any way they could. Bags of cement were sold to anyone and everyone with the cement then being donated back to the fund.

The local police have applauded the group of guys who have fought so hard to make their dream a reality. The Bowl provides the guys with a safe, self policed, environment in which they can skate safely.

I am just so proud that Bobs and J have been part of this excercise and even prouder that yesterday Bobs skated to raise much neede funds for C.L.I.C. a charity very close to my heart.

Bobs doing his thang during his first run....apparently its called a Rock to Fakey?????

Bobs defying gravity....riding the coping as fast as he could during his second run.

My mates Sara's little guy feeling a bit battered and bruised after taking a fall during his run....can you spot the grazed elbow?....ouch.

Harry was a ickle bit miffed that he didnt make the finals :(

So eager to be the next to drop in....these guys have no fear....that drop is over 4ft down.....and it bloomin hurts when they fall!

Ummmmm...a little eye candy :) Tom...one of the judges.....dribble dribble slurp slurp!!!!

Bobs came 6th in the comp and came home with a goodie bag filled with stickers and skate stash...shame he couldnt bring Tom too.....sigh!

My feeble attempt at being a jolly Mommy for Fireworks night...."here guys hold a sparkler"...cough, splutter, snivel, sneeze.

A big thank you to everyone who has emailed me to wish me well....your positive vibes are working and I am starting to feel a little more human.

Cough Splutter Snivel

Yuckity Yuck Yuck!
I have developed the most annoying cold and Im feeling really poohey!
I hate, hate, hate feeling so horrid. Im tired, Im hot, Im cold, Im sleepy and Im bored!!!
I get so annoyed with myself when I havent got the energy to be buzzing and whizzing around doing 10 things at once....maybe this is natures way of making me stop for a few hours and for me to recharge my batteries???
My nose is soooo sore because I keep having to blow my hooter......Hubs found the perfect solution for never being without a tissue....whatdaya think????

I made this ickle tag book at Scrappers Paradise for Hubs. I filled it with piccies of the guys and me and used it as a grovelly way to say a huge Thanks to him for being such a wonderfully supportive Dad to the guys and the bestest Hubby to me.... I gave it to him and he said Thanks...its wonderful and I love it BUT what do I do with it???
Its been shoved in his sock draw along with all the other bits of clutter I make him LOL! He really is a Virgo and hates mess, clutter or things that do not serve a purpose....Lordy knows why he married me cus Im the worlds greatest hoarder, the messiest person who ever walked this earth and clutter is my middle name....they do say opposites attract, dont they?

Laterz hunniez....aaaaaatttttiiiiiiiishhhhhhooooo...oppps sorry!
