Eternal Love

Hubs grandparents have played a major role in our lives.

Its is because of them that Hubs and I packed up all our belongings and headed down to Devon to make our new life.
Grampy had suffered a stroke and having no immediate family around to help Gran care for him, meant we just had to be the ones who sold everything we owned to help them through the golden days.

Grampy was such a hero...at 93 he drove down to the "local" to partake in his daily 1/2 of Guiness, it wasnt unusual to see him digging and tending to his cottage garden at 95!

This man ate all the stuff we are told not too....fried brekkie everyday and it was swimming in a pool of proper beef dripping...a glass or two of whiskey at night and always puffing away at a big fat cigar, known as a "Banger".

Sadly Grampy passed away and left poor Gran lost....he had done everything for her and had always "looked after" things....she hadnt got a clue how to load the solid fuel Aga, had never written a cheque in her life and couldnt drive.

As Hubs was the next living male relative he inherited Grampys house....its a family thing where the women loose out!

Gran came to stay with us for a wee while whilst we made some pretty extensive and much needed renovations to the house....there was no bathroom....no electricity....no mains water supply....no sewerage system...no gas....solid fuel heating which was a nightmare to cook with and the house was riddled with woodworm!!!
Hubs and I worked solidly for months and then once finished we all moved "home".

Gran lived with us for three years until she suffered a nasty horrible stroke and needed to have proper nursing care........its so sad that she wont see her days out in the home she loved but it would be physically impossible for us to care for her needs. She has very limited use of her limbs which makes her a prisoner in her own body. Her mind is so active and she is an extremely intelligent lady who is always full of the most amazing information.

She is a delight to go and visist and I love nothing more than sitting down and chatting with her about the good old days.

It would have been their 50th Wedding Anniversary today.

I made this mini album using the Mystery Kit from A Trip Down Memory Lane and am about to go vist Gran and will enjoy an afternoon taking a trip down her memory lane.
