Its a Dogs Life!

We have spent the past couple of days looking for a new addition for our family.....not the pitter patter of tiny feet...paws more like!
We have a dog already...Ozzie, who is a small Jack Russell. He will be three in December and we feel the time has come for us to introduce a playmate into the fold.
Off we trotted to the local Dogs Trust and after spending almost an hour looking and arrring at all the dogs we happened to stumble upon Capser. He's an 11 month old pedigree Labrador and is just so soft and cuddly.
The guys fell in love with him straight away and I must admit he pulled at my heart strings with his beautiful soppy eyes.

We spent an hour or so with him in the pound playing ball. He is such an obedient pup and really full of life. We lead a pretty active life so need a dog that has plenty of energy and he just ticked all the boxes for us.
We drove home to collect Ozzie so we could introduce him to his potential new "brother"....ummmmm thats when the fun started! Ozzie was not at all impressed by Casper. There was no growling or hackles lifted, infact there was nothig....no connection at all, which is very strange for Oz has he is a dog lover and has many four legged playmates. we said our goodbyes to Casper feeling a little downhearted that the meeting hadnt gone as well as we had hoped.

We slept on our thoughts over night and decided that this morning we would take both woofers to the beach...neutral territory and open space might make a difference....it didnt! Casper is such an adorable dog...housetrained, good manners, knows all the commands BUT Ozzie and him just didnt hit it off! There was no spark between them. Ozzie ignored Casper and was most put out that the huge blonde beastie was getting slightly more attention from the guys than he was!

The guys adored Casper...he was such a loopy cuddly fun loving hound but that connection we needed to see between both dogs just didnt happen at all.

The last tick box for Casper was his home visit. We needed to see how he would react when he saw the wabbits, Dingle and Dangle....ermmm Casper loved them....well I think he would have loved to eat them! From the second he saw them he didnt take his eyes off them. He was salivatting just at the thought of getting him munchers around their fat little tums! i tried for an hor to get him to sit and look with him trying to brak down the sides of the wabbit run to get to the bundles of fluff but he wasnt having it....he had his mind firmly set on a wabbit supper!

So poor pup Casper has been returned to the dogs home after his day out to the beach. I cried when we left him because he is adorable...J cried because Casper was his new best friend, R cried because Casper loved to play footie and Im sure I saw DH fighting back a tear or two. We both hated having to leave him...both hated that we had rejected him because TBH he was a complete poppet....we just need to know that any addition is going to fit in with us all...

We have to think about the animals we already have here...Ozzie wasnt keen, the Rabbits certainly didnt like being hounded by the slobbering beast and lordy knows what the cat thinks b/c we havent seen him since Casper chased him over the wall!!

A litter of Puppies are due next weekend....so maybe just maybe we may hear the patter of tiny paws very soon.

its great to hear the story behind the photos on the team thread. sounds like casper was a great dog....for someone who didnt already have a furry family. i've no doubt you'll find a dog that will fit your family.
hope you manage to get some pics on here to go with the story.

Such a shame that Casper and Ozzie didn't hit it off. Fingers crossed that Casper finds a home soon.

Aw.. I don't even want a dog but am now rooting for Casper .. just as well we don't live close enough to pop over to your place LOL. Sounds like a puppy would be your best option darl', maybe it will bring out the nurturing instinct in Ozzie and the rabbits will live another day.
